Cotton On and the Geelong Cats Unveil Innovative Guernsey Design for 2019
27th August, 2018
Cotton On, the Official On and Off Field Apparel Partner of the Geelong Cats have worked closely with the Geelong Football Club to develop an exclusive new look guernsey for 2019.
As the first apparel designers to make significant changes to the guernsey, the Cotton On team are excited to have had the opportunity to apply their ever better approach to the AFL sporting arena, push the boundaries of what is possible and contribute to forward strides in game.
AFL teams commonly unveil special edition guernseys for specific games, as exemplified by the Sir Doug Nicolls round which celebrates indigenous culture and players, both past and present, while the week-to-week playing jumper remains largely untouched year after year.
The 2019 season will see this change, when thanks to a collaboration between the Cats players and Cotton On apparel designers, the Geelong Cats will take to the field wearing a jumper featuring:
- Refreshed armholes and original upper-back shaping to offer maximum room for shoulder and arm rotation allowing for freedom of movement when players are tackling, marking and kicking;
- Side seams have been repositioned to flow from the back of the player’s body to the front, thereby reducing underarm seam irritation and;
- A watermark ‘G’ logo, the font and style taken from the main club crest, that is becoming more commonly used by the football club for its youthful and modern twist on tradition.
Appearing subtle to some, these ergonomic design innovations will significantly enhance the players’ comfort when training and playing, while remaining true to the heritage of the guernsey.
The final design was cemented after a continuous process of players testing fit samples during training sessions and offering their feedback to Group product developers throughout the 2018 season.
The Geelong Cats launched their new jumpers at the team’s last home game of the 2018 season on Saturday, at GMHBA Stadium where they wore the jumper for the first time throughout the match.
Following the game three lucky fans became the first to get a hold of their very own 2019 guernsey when Cats Captain Joel Selwood and teammates Patrick Dangerfield and Zach Tuohy gave the shirts off their backs to some very excited children in the crowd.
The 2019 on-field guernsey is available for pre-order today, Monday, 27 August by visiting the Cats Shop website.
