Citizens of the Reef

Since 2022, Cotton On Foundation has partnered with Citizens of the Reef and the Reef Cooperative to help restore and protect the Great Barrier Reef. Citizens of the Reef have a unique ability to bring people together through impactful, scalable projects that address the rapid decline of coral reefs worldwide.

Come with me on a 5 Day Reef Expedition – Ali Capp

Over five nights, we [Ali and Reef Cooperative] travelled 120kms from Townsville and head south through clusters of reefs, before making our way back up towards Cairns surveying 100+ sites across 44 reefs on the very outer edges of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR).

The weather was WILD, giving me a whole new appreciation for what the teams go through to collate data on the state of the reefs.

Many of these reefs were surveyed for the first time and this Census data will continue to inform and reprioritise which threats are responded to first and which healthy reefs need to be protected.

What Cotton On Foundation is supporting is important, necessary and scalable. By investing in Census, the Reef Coop and their activities, we have enabled them to prove that their model works and bring the work to new regions along the GBR and around the world.”
