Cotton On Foundation Beyond Words Initiative

The Cotton On Foundation, in partnership with the Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation and The Bookery, officially opened the first Beyond Words library at Masivuke Primary School in Philippi, Cape Town. This marks a major milestone for the Beyond Words literacy movement, a national initiative led by the Cotton On Foundation.

Beyond Words is focused on improving literacy outcomes for young learners across South Africa by increasing access to books, creating inspiring learning spaces and providing ongoing literacy support in schools that need it most.

The newly modernised library is stocked with both academic and recreational books and features dedicated learning spaces designed to encourage reading and curiosity. More than just a library, it offers students a safe and welcoming environment where imagination can grow and curiosity can truly thrive.

This is only the beginning. With the first Beyond Words library now open, the movement will continue to expand into more schools across South Africa.

To support the library opening, Cotton On Kids and the Cotton On Foundation brought the Beyond Words Initiative to life through a connected community activation at the Cotton On Kids Mall of Africa store.

Designed to support and strengthen reading outcomes, the event created meaningful, real‑world literacy experiences for young readers and their families. Focused on community connection, the event was centred around storytelling, books and shared literacy moments. Local children’s author Sihle led an engaging live reading session, followed by a book signing, creating a warm and inspiring experience for families.

Together, Cotton On Kids and the Cotton On Foundation brought the Beyond Words literacy program to life in a meaningful community setting. When children have access to stories, they gain the power to imagine a different future.
