15th January, 2015
With the support of its customers from around the world, Cotton On, in partnership with the Cotton On Foundation, has reached the $1 million target set for its I Give A Brick campaign, which will see a new school built in Nubbunga, Southern Uganda.
The online global campaign, I Give A Brick, called on customers and supporters to share the #IGIVEABRICK hash tag on social media and nominate friends to do the same. Each time the hash tag was shared and Cotton On Foundation product was purchased during November and December, money went directly towards building the school.
Cotton On Foundation General Manager Tim Diamond says the results of the global campaign has been amazing.
“Education is the major factor when breaking the cycle of poverty and through the generosity of our customers and passion of our teams we can now provide education to over 500 children in Nubbunga Village, Southern Uganda, which is such an inspiring result for everyone involved.”
Building of the school will commence this month and completion is scheduled for July 2015. The school will include 10 classrooms, two offices for head teacher and deputy head teacher, a staff room, teacher’s housing for five staff, kitchen, toilet facilities, playing field, vegetable garden, access to clean water, two meals a day for all students and agricultural areas to promote sustainability.
