Gifts with heart: supporting communities in Southern Uganda

Gifts With Heart: Cotton On Foundation E-Cards Launched

8th December, 2014

This festive season, the Cotton On Foundation is calling on customers to give a gift with heart with the launch of a new range of e-cards to help support communities in Southern Uganda.

The e-cards give shoppers the opportunity to purchase, on behalf of a loved one, much needed items for children and families in need.  With items including malaria testing kits, uniforms for kindergarten students and school library books, the sale of each e-card will go towards positively impacting Southern Ugandan communities.

Available online now, all five cards are priced under $30 making them an ideal ‘add on’ to a more traditional Christmas present. With purchasers receiving an electronic card to print or email to the recipient, they’re also bound to be popular with last minute shoppers.

Cotton On Foundation General Manager, Tim Diamond says the lead up to the festive season is the perfect time to launch the range.

“At a time of year when so many of us are in a position to spoil our loved ones, we wanted to offer our customers a new platform to give a gift that can improve the life of a child or a family long term,” he says.

“We hope they embrace the opportunity to do something a little different this year. When else can they add a brick mould to their festive hamper or a piglet to their Christmas stocking?”

Each of the e-card items have been selected for their capacity to create healthier, more sustainable futures for those living in Southern Uganda. A piglet, for example, can help a family generate an income and fertilise their crops, whilst malaria testing kits play a vital role in the early detection and treatment of the disease.

The e-cards add to an existing range of products sold online and throughout the Cotton On Group’s network of stores to support the Foundation’s work in Southern Uganda.  Since the Foundation’s inception in 2007, over $25 million has been raised to fund projects in the region. This has included the installation of a water tower and bores giving villagers access to over 440,000 litres of fresh water, the building of two new health care centres in the villages of Mannya and Busibo, and the establishment of seventy new classrooms and a kindergarten to significantly increase the number of educational places.

Whilst the e-cards have been released in readiness for the festive season, they will continue as a permanent offering for the Cotton On Foundation into the New Year, allowing customers to give a gift with heart all year round.
