INTRODUCING COTTON ON FOUNDATION’S RETAIL ACADEMY

17th August, 2021

We’re thrilled to have kicked off a new initiative in South Africa, focused on inspiring, developing and training Grade 12 learners in the wonderful world of retail, through a five month training program made up of theory and practical components.

In partnership with Grade 12 students at Dr JL Dube, as well as Grade 12s from 2020, the Cotton On Foundation Retail Academy seeks to empower learners by honing retail skills and exposing them to a broad array of career opportunities in the industry. The Retail Academy is also for candidates who want to get a better understanding of general workplace expectations and etiquette, developing their confidence through role playing before they embark on their career journey within another industry or field.

The course content places emphasis on real world scenarios, so that upon course completion, candidates will have the ability to seamlessly integrate into entry level retail positions.

As Retail Academy graduates, students will be able to enter the real world of retail with the skills and experience required to hold down an entry level role in retail with confidence.

The course curriculum provides participants with a solid foundation in all areas of the retail industry including:

  • How to write a CV
  • How to apply for a job online
  • Interview skills
  • Workplace etiquette, behaviours and expectations
  • Career pathways and opportunities in retail
  • How to prepare a bank account and tax file number
  • Retail Operations 101
  • Visual Merchandising 101
  • Customer service skills
  • Retail jargon

Successful graduates will walk away with a retail starter pack, including a uniform deal (jeans, jeggings, leggings, shorts, graphic tee, essentials tee, lanyard), a Cotton On Foundation tote bag, sanitiser, and mask, and most importantly, a reference letter from our Pathways Coordinator.
