Run Geelong raises over $300,000 for Barwon Health’s Paediatric Rehabilitation Centre

24th November, 2017

On Sunday 19 November, the streets of Geelong were alive with over 10,000 participants lacing up and getting involved in the ninth annual Run Geelong.

With 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to supporting children’s health services in the region, this year’s event raised almost $300,000 for the new Barwon Health Paediatric Rehabilitation Centre.

As the first of its kind in Australia, the state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre will support thousands of young children from in and around Geelong, by offering a range of specialist rehabilitation services from a purpose-built central location.

Participants had the choice of registering in four events – the Cotton On 12km Run, Cotton On BODY 6km Run, GMHBA 6km Family Walk and the Cotton On KIDS 1km Run.

This year, the event day experience was bigger and better, with participants soaking up the atmosphere at the Event Village and enjoying an exclusive show by Aussie superstar, Casey Donovan.

Cotton On Group Community Manager, Sam McGuane, said he was delighted at the number of locals who got behind this year’s event and helped nearly $300,000 for their community.

“Run Geelong is always such a great day and this year was no exception. The vibe in the Event Village was electric and we were thrilled with the number of community members who came down and showed their support,” he said.

“Since Run Geelong launched in 2009, the local community has always been very supportive and the Festival coupled with Casey’s performance and all the other activities and entertainment was a way for us to thank participants for their ongoing support and the contribution they have made to children’s healthcare in the region.”

Since its inception in 2009, Run Geelong has raised over $3.2 million for the redevelopment of the Children’s Ward, Special Care Nursery, Maternity Day Assessment unit and the Maternity Ward at University Hospital Geelong.
