Live Stream from Uganda
22nd April, 2016
In a Cotton On Group, and potentially world first, Planet factorie has broadcast the official opening of a new primary school live from Uganda.
The doors to St Timothy’s Primary School in Kyalulangira were officially opened by the students, Cotton On Foundation General Manager, Tim Diamond and community leader, Father Nestus.
More than 400 people gathered at Geelong’s office headquarters to celebrate with the factorie team, via a live stream link on the ground in Uganda.
Planet factorie partnered with the village of Kyalulangira in 2012. It’s a small community about 20 minutes from Mannya village which was in desperate need of new education facilities.
Through the support of factorie’s retail teams and customers, more than one million dollars was raised for the project.
The new and improved St. Timothy’s Primary School will enable 500 children access to a quality education.
One of its future students is little Veronica. Despite being too young to start prep, she is so excited about getting an education that she insists on wearing her uniform every day. Her mother Margaret teaches Literacy and English at St. Timothy’s.
There are currently 30 high priority students from Kyalulangira village who are awaiting sponsorship, including nine year old Muhindo who loves playing football and wants to become a doctor, and five year old Nakatende who wants to be a teacher when she grows up.
